십자가를 향한 주님의 길

눅19:28

생명의 말씀

“예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 예루살렘을 향하여 앞서서 가시더라”

지상에서 예수님의 생애는 인류의 구속을 위한 하나님의 압축된 삶 자체라 할 수 있지만, 특별히 마지막 고난의 한 주간 동안의 삶은 이중에서도 최고의 절정이라 할 수 있습니다. 목요일 저녁, 겟세마네 동산의 기도 후 병정들에게 체포되어 다음날 오전 9시, 십자가에 달리셔서 대속의 죽음을 맞이하심으로 주님의 공생애가 결말을 맺게 되었습니다.

그러나 주님께서 십자가에 달려 죽기 전 이미 4개월 전부터 유대인들은 예수를 잡아 죽이려는 모의와 결의를 했습니다. 십자가에 달리기 4개월 전인 주후 29년 겨울, 나사로의 부활로 인해 수많은 사람들이 예수를 믿고, 그를 따라 다녔습니다(요11:45). 그런데 이들 중에 어떤 자들이 바리새인들에게 예수의 하신 일을 고함으로(요11:46), 이 날부터 저희가 예수를 죽이려고 모의했던 것입니다(요11:53). 이처럼 예수를 죽이려는 모의는 나사로 사건이 있기 2개월 전 초막절에 예수께서 예루살렘에 상경했을 때에도 있었습니다. 그러나 당시에는 사람들이 예수를 선지자로 여겼기 때문에 잡으려고 해도 예수께 손대는 자가 없어서 그를 잡으려고 하속들을 보내기도 했습니다(요7:30-32).

이러한 일이 있은 후 예수께서는 자신을 드러내 놓고 다닐 수가 없었습니다. 아버지께서 보내신 일을 다 마치고 십자가를 짊어지셔야 하는데 아직 때가 되지 않았기 때문입니다. 이 짧고 중대한 시간에 조용히 남의 눈을 피해 12제자를 데리고 에브라임 광야에 가서 말씀을 가르치셨습니다(마12:14-15). 그 와중에 열 명의 문둥이를 고치시고, 소경 바디메오와 삭개오를 만나 구원을 허락하셨으니, 도피 중에도 전도에 힘쓰셨던 주님의 사랑을 깨닫게 됩니다. 유월절이 되자 주님은 목숨을 걸고 예루살렘에 오지 못할 거라는 유대인들의 생각(요11:56-57)과는 반대로 십자가를 바라보며 당당하게 예루살렘으로 가기로 굳게 결심 하시고 앞장서서 걸어가셨습니다(눅19:28, 막10:32).

유대인들의 살의(殺意)를 뚫고 십자가를 향해 보무도 당당하게 전진하셨던 주님, 도피의 와중에도 오직 전도와 영혼구원에 전념하셨던 주님의 모습을 닮아갈 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

"After He had said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem."

In the short period of Jesus’ life on earth, He worked to save all of humankind. The last week of His life filled with suffering was the deciding factor. After He prayed on thursday night at Garden of Gethsemane, the Roman Soldiers came to take Him away. He was questioned and tortured until 9AM Friday. He finished His 3 years of public service on earth by hanging on the cross.

However, 4 months before the crucifixion of Jesus, the Jewish leaders were planning to kill him. That is the winter of 29 AD; after Lazarus was risen from the dead, many people followed and believed in Jesus (John 11:45). But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done (John 11:46). So from that day on they planned together to kill Him (John 11:53). Just 2 months before the crucifixion, Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Feast of Booths, there the Jewish leaders wanted to seize Him but many people considered Jesus as a prophet, so no man laid his hands on Him (John 7:30-32).

From then on, Jesus did not freely present Himself. He wanted to complete the work of the Father and pick up the cross. During this short important time, He quietly fled from many people and took His 12 disciples to Wilderness of Ephraim to the teach the word (Matthew 12:14-15). Even during His flight, He healed 10 leprous men, made blind Bartholomew see and granted salvation to Zaccheus, these actions demonstrates His diligence in spreading the gospel and love for humankind. As Passover approached, Jesus risked His life and entered Jerusalem, in contrast to what the chief priests and Pharisees thought (John 11:56-57). He looked toward the cross and confidently led His disciples to Jerusalem (Luke 19:28, Mark 10:32).

"Prayer Request"

Despite the chief priests and Pharisees, Jesus proudly entered Jerusalem looking at the cross. He continued to evangelize even during His flight. Let us pray that we can concentrate to evangelize as Jesus did.
