하나님의 축복을 받은 사람
삼하6:11
생명의 말씀
“여호와의 궤가 가드 사람 오벧에돔의 집에 석달을 있었는데 여호와께서 오벧에돔과 그 온 집에 복을 주시니라”
하나님의 법궤를 다윗 성으로 모셔들이는 국가적인 예식이 행해지고 있었습니다. 그런데 이때 사람이 죽는 사건이 발생하고 말았습니다. 웃사라고 하는 사람이 하나님의 법궤를 손으로 만짐으로 그만 죽고 말았던 것입니다. 삼만명이나 되는 법궤 운반팀을 만들어 예식을 주관하던 다윗도 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 백성들은 두려움에 벌벌 떨고 있습니다. 경사스러운 축제의 분위기는 삽시간에 찬물을 끼얹은 듯 냉랭해졌습니다. 이것이 오늘 본문의 상황입니다. 하지만 이런 위기의 순간이 오히려 복받을 사람들에게는 기회인 것 같습니다. 바로 오벧에돔이 그런 사람입니다.
오벧에돔이란 이름의 뜻은 ‘오벧’(섬기다) 이라는 말과 ‘에돔’이라는 말의 합성어로 ‘에돔을 섬기는’ 혹은 ‘에돔의 예배자’입니다. 그는 성전의 문지기로 평범하게 살아가는 사람이었습니다. 권세와 능력이 있는 것도 아니요 남들이 알아주는 자도 아니지만 그의 가슴 속에는 하나님에 대한 뜨거운 사랑이 펄펄 끓고 있었습니다. 그래서 법궤 모시기를 중단하고 잠시 모셔둘 만한 곳을 물색하는데, 그곳이 바로 오벧에돔의 집이 되었습니다.
만약 사람이 죽지 않았다면 높은 분들이 서로 그 귀한 법궤를 자기 집에 모시겠노라고 난리였겠지만 이제 그 죽음의 법궤는 사람들의 기피의 대상이 되었습니다. 두려움의 대상입니다. 그래서 힘없는 오벧에돔의 집에까지 떠밀려 왔습니다. 하지만 오벧에돔은 정성을 다해 법궤를 모셨습니다. 법궤를 하나님처럼 섬겼습니다. 그 결과 법궤가 있은 지 3개월만에 엄청난 복을 받았습니다. 오벧에돔 뿐 아니라 그 집안의 모든 권속이 다 복을 받고, 그 자손들이 아마야 왕 때까지 62명이나 성전에서 봉사하는 축복을 받았습니다. 대를 이은 축복입니다. 축복의 소문이 온 나라 안에 퍼지고 다윗 왕의 귀에까지 들어갈 정도로 큰 복이었습니다. 바로 하나님을 가까이하고 정성을 다해 모시는 사람들에게 주시는 복입니다.
<기도제목>
오벧에돔은 하나님의, 법궤를 정성을 다해 모심으로 3개월만에 크게 축복을 받고, 그 소문이 온 나라 안에 퍼지고 다윗 왕의 귀에까지 들리게 된 사람입니다. 여러분도 오벧에돔처럼 하나님을 경외하며 말씀을 섬길 수 있는 하루를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life
“The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.”
The national movement of putting the ark of God into David’s temple was being carried out. However, a death occurred at this time and man called Uzziah had touched the ark of God with his hands and died as a result. Even David who oversaw the entire procedure had prepared 30 thousand people to move the ark and was surprised at this incident. The people were trembling in fear. The festive celebrations had come to an abrupt halt. This is the situation in today’s main scripture reading but there are people who will receive blessings even through such times of crisis. Obed Edom was such a person.
The name Obed Edom is a name that is made up of two words “Obed” which means “to serve” and “Edom” which means “the one who serves Edom” or “the worshipper of Edom”. He was a gatekeeper who led an average life. He wasn’t a man who possessed power or authority however within his heart, he passionately loved God. Therefore, when the movement of the ark came to a halt and they were looking for a place to keep the ark, Obed Edom’s house was chosen.
If a person did not die then all the people in leadership positions would have fought to have the ark put in their homes but because of this death, the ark had become undesirable to these people and had become an artifact of fear. Thus the ark had found
its place at Obed Edom’s house and Obed Edom in took care of the ark with all his heart. He served the ark just as he would serve God. As a result, only three months after the ark was put in his home great blessings came upon Obed Edom and his household, including his family. This great blessing extended to 62 of his descendents who received the blessing of being able to serve in the temple until the time of King Amaya. This was the blessing of inheritance. Word spread of the blessings that Obed Edom received throughout the nation and even King David became aware of this great blessing. This is the blessing that God gives to those who keep close to God and try their best to serve Him.
Prayer title
Obed Edom was able to receive great blessings after taking care of God’s ark with all his heart for three months and this word spread throughout the land and was soon heard by King David. We need to pray that today we can be like Obed Edom and worship the Word with a revering heart.
