너희에게 떡이 몇 개나있느냐?

마15:34-38

생명의 말씀

“예수께서 가라사대 너희에게 떡이 몇 개나 있느냐 가로되 일곱개와 작은 생선 두어 마리가 있나이다 하거늘 예수께서 무리를 명하사 땅에 앉게 하시고 떡 일곱 개와 그 생선을 가지사 축사하시고 떼어 제자들에게 주시니 제자들이 무리에게 주매 다 배불리 먹고 남은 조각을 일곱 광주리에 차게 거두었으며 먹은 자는 여자와 아이 외에 사천명이었더라”

예수님께서 갈릴리 호숫가의 한 산에서 많은 무리들에게 말씀을 선포하시는 중에 무리들을 위해 제자들에게 먹을 것을 준비하라고 명령하셨습니다. 예수님의 이 명령에 제자들은 어떠한 반응을 보이고 있습니까? 빌립은 “이 많은 사람을 먹이려면 이백 데나리온으로도 부족할 것입니다”(요6:7)라고 답변하고 있고 다른 제자들도 “광야에 떡 파는 곳도 없는데 어떻게 이 무리들이 배불리 먹을 만큼의 양식을 구할 수 있습니까?”(마15:33)라고 대답하고 있습니다. 그와 같은 상황에서 여러분 같으면 어떠한 반응을 보였겠습니까?

사실 예수님은 이 한마디 짧은 질문을 통해 제자들의 믿음을 시험하셨을 뿐 아니라 하나님의 말씀으로 사는 줄을 깨닫게 하시고자 하는 의도를 가지고 계셨습니다. 그러므로 ‘너희에게 떡이 몇개나 있느냐?’는 말씀은 첫째, 주의 말씀은 모든 것이 가능하고 능치 못함이 없음을 나타내 줍니다. 오병이어의 적은 재료로 4천명을 먹이시고도 일곱 광주리나 남았다는 사실이 이를 증거해 주고 있습니다.

둘째, 인간의 소유가 얼마되지 않음을 깨우쳐 주시는 말씀입니다. 내가 가진 소유가 아무리 많다 할지라도 주님 보시기에는 물고기 두 마리와 보리떡 일곱 개의 가치보다 못한 것입니다.

셋째, 보잘 것 없는 물질이지만 주님께 가져오기만 하면 능치 못함이 없음을 깨우쳐 주시는 말씀입니다. 자신의 도시락을 가지고 나온 어린 아이의 순수한 믿음처럼 비록 적은 물질이지만 주께로 가지고 나올 때 놀라운 능력이 나타나게 됩니다. 지금도 주님께서는 “너희에게 떡이 몇개나 있느냐?”라고 질문하고 계십니다. 이 질문 앞에 뭐라 답변하시겠습니까?

지금 여러분의 손에 들려있는 것이 무엇입니까? 아무리 작고 보잘 것 없는 것이라 할지라도 믿음으로 주께 내어놓음으로 칠병이어와 같은 놀라운 은혜를 체험하는 하루를 위해 기도하십시오.

How Many Loaves Do You Have?

Matt. 15:34-38

While Jesus was teaching a multitude of people on a mountain by the Sea of Galilee,he told his disciple stop repare something for the multitude to eat. Let us observe the disciples’ reactions to this command. Philip said, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little” (John 6:7). The disciples also said, “Where would we get so many loaves in a desolate place to satisfy such a great multitude?” (Matt. 15:33) What kind of reaction would you show if you were in the same situation?

Through this simple question and task, Jesus not only tested the disciples’ faith, but also wanted to teach them that it is by the Word of God we can be satisfied in our lives.

Let us think about the significance of the question “How many loaves do you have?”

First, it indicates that there is nothing impossible to the Word. The fact that he fed four thousand people with just seven loaves of bread and a few small fish, and even had seven large baskets full is a good proof of this.

Second, his question teaches us that human possession is very minute. No matter how much I may possess, it is only worth seven loaves of bread and couple fish in the eyes of God.

Third, he teaches us that even the smallest and worthless thing can be made great and valuable once it is brought and given to the Lord. When we bring even a small offering to the Lord with pure faith like the boy that gave his lunch to the Lord, His great power will be revealed. The Lord is still asking us, “How many loaves do you have?” What is your answer to this question?

What is in your hands right now? What kind of problems, dilemmas, and/or troubles are you tossing around and trying to handle? No matter how small and insignificant it may be, let us pray that we may be able to give it to the Lord and experience His amazing grace like the miracle of feeding the four thousand today.
