감사의 문을 통과하자

생명의 말씀

“감사함으로 그 문에 들어가며 찬송함으로 그 궁정에 들어가서 그에게 감사하며 그 이름을 송축할지어다”

시편 기자는 성전에 들어가는 문을 하나님을 만나는 문으로 생각하면서 그 문의 이름을 ‘감사의 문’이라 하였습니다. 이는 어떤 목적, 어떤 상태에서 내가 성전에 온다 할지라도 ‘감사’의 마음을 가지고 성전에 가서 하나님을 만나겠다는 시편기자의 고백이기도 하며, 오늘날 하나님 앞에 서는 성도의 기준을 제시해주는 말씀이기도 합니다. 그렇기 때문에 우리가 하나님 앞에 나아갈 때는 오직 ‘기쁨과 감사’ 밖에 없습니다. ‘감사’는 이 세상 속에서 사는 성도의 꼬리표입니다.

또한 시편기자는 하나님 앞에 나아가되 ‘즐거이 부르며’ 나아간다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이 표현은 잔치집에서 들을 수 있는 소리를 연상케 해줍니다. 잔치집은 기쁘고 즐거운 자리입니다. 유일하게 잔치집의 현장에서 만큼은 걱정이나 근심이 없습니다. 불평이 없습니다. 결혼을 기뻐하고 새 가족의 탄생을 하나님께 감사하는 자리입니다. 그러므로 하나님을 믿는 성도는 이처럼 기쁨과 감사가 넘쳐날 때 하나님을 만날 수 있습니다. 감사가 먼저 앞설 때 하나님의 구원을 볼 수 있습니다(시50:23).

이런 감사와 기쁨의 메아리가 1620년 12월 26일 미국의 매사추세츠주 플리머스에 메아리쳤습니다. 메이플라워호를 타고 신앙의 자유를 찾아 신대륙에 도착한 146명의 청교도들이 감사의 내용을 기념비에 새긴 것이 그것입니다. “모래를 하늘에 날리며 찬송을 부르는 사람들, 바위를 끌어안고 시편 100편의 감사의 시를 큰 소리로 외우는 사람들, 그들의 기도와 찬송과 외침은 모두가 하나님께 감사하는 기쁨의 찬양이었다”.

이처럼 감사의 신앙이 오늘날 미국건국의 기초였습니다. 오늘날도 이러한 감사의 문을 통과하는 자가 하나님을 만날 수 있는 것입니다.

"Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name."

Author of Psalms 100, believed that entering the temple’s gates was entering to meet God and labeled it gates with thanksgiving. Regardless of purpose and situation, the author testifies that he will enter the gate with a thankful heart in order to meet God. This verse is guidance that we need to heed to. Therefore, when we come before God, there should only be “joy and thanksgiving”. Thanksgiving is our lifeline in this world.

Author of Psalms 100 stated that he went to His courts with praise. This statement can be used to describe a celebration where there is joy and happiness all around. Fortunately, there are no worries and problems at a celebration. There are no complaints either. It is a place where marriage is blessed and a new family is born, offering thanksgiving to God. When we believe and meet God, we are overflowing with such joy and happiness. When thanksgiving is offered first, then we can see God’s salvation (Psalms 50:23).

Such thanksgiving was displayed with the pilgrims on Plymouth Rock on December 26, 1620. 146 pilgrims sailed from Britain on the Mayflower looking for religious freedom. They confessed, “As the sands flew to the sky, holding onto the rock we sang praises and reciting Psalms 100 with a loud voice” - they offered thanksgiving to God through their prayers and praises. Currently, this thanksgiving faith became the founding ground for America. Today, only those who enter His gates of thanksgiving can see God.

As the author of Psalms 100 entered the gates with thanksgiving, let us pray that we can enter the gates daily with a grateful heart.
