속임의 결과는 사망뿐이다
창5:3-5

생명의 말씀

“아담이 일백 삼십세에 자기 모양 곧 자기 형상과 같은 아들을 낳아 이름을 셋이라 하였고 아담이 셋을 낳은 후 팔백년을 지내며 자녀를 낳았으며 그가 구백 삼십세를 향수하고 죽었더라”

에덴동산에서 아담과 하와의 타락은 뱀의 말을 듣고 불순종한 것이며, 거짓으로 하나님마저 속이려 한 죄로 인한 것입니다. 하나님은 선악과를 먹으면 정녕 죽으리라 말씀하셨지만, 마귀는 먹으면 오히려 눈이 밝아져 하나님과 같이 된다고 거짓으로 하와를 속였습니다. 이러한 타락의 결과 인류에게 찾아온 것이 사망입니다. 따라서 세상에 수많은 죄가 있지만 가장 큰 죄 중에 하나가 거짓과 속임입니다. 왜냐하면 그 결과는 사망뿐이기 때문입니다. 그러므로 우리는 인생의 죽음을 목격할 때마다 그 배후에 있는 ‘마귀의 속임수’를 발견할 줄 알아야 합니다.

마귀의 속임에 넘어간 인류에게 찾아온 변화는 무엇입니까? 가장 먼저 인류에게 찾아온 변화는 ‘수치심’입니다. 죄를 짓기 전에는 벌거벗었으나 부끄러워하지 않았다고 성경은 증거합니다(창2:23). 그러나 죄의 결과 영광의 옷이 벗겨지고 육신의 눈이 밝아져 벗었음을 알고 부끄러움을 느꼈던 것입니다. 수치심은 두려움과 공포로 발전했습니다. 하나님의 낯을 피해 숨고 좇아오는 사람이 없어도 두려움에 도망가는 신세가 되고 말았습니다. 이처럼 죄악은 인류에게서 화목과 사랑과 평화를 앗아가고, 하나님과 사람 사이에 좁힐 수 없는 커다란 틈을 만들어 갈라놓은 것입니다.

둘째, 죄의 결과는 인류에게 커다란 ‘고통’을 안겨주었습니다. 인류의 시조 아담과 하와가 범죄하자 땅도 저주를 받아 그 효력을 잃고 말았습니다(창4:12). 채소와 과목을 내던 땅은 이제 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴를 내었고(창3:18) 얼굴에 땀을 흘려야 겨우 먹을 식물을 얻을 수 있게 되었습니다(창3:19). 육체적인 고통뿐 아니라 하나님을 떠난 결과 매사에 감사치 못함으로 인해 불평과 원망의 삶을 살게 되었는데, 이것 자체가 커다란 고통이라고 사도바울은 말하고 있습니다(딤후3:1-2). 이러한 고통의 결과 사람은 마음이 상하고 상한 나머지 결국에는 죽을 수밖에 없는 인생이 되었던 것입니다. 아담이 아들을 낳고 930세를 향수한 후 결국 ‘죽음’으로 그 인생을 끝맺음할 수밖에 없었던 이유가 바로 여기에 있습니다.

뱀의 속임의 넘어간 결과 불순종의 죄를 범함으로 인류에게 사망이 왔다면, 오늘 하루 주시는 말씀에 순종하고 의지함으로 모든 사단의 유혹을 이김으로 생명의 축복이 충만한 삶이 되기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Outcome of Deceit is Only Death
Genesis 5:3-5

The Word of Life

When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

The fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was because they disobeyed God and listened to the snake, and because of their sin in trying to deceive God. God said that they would surely die if they eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil however Satan deceived Eve telling her that they would not die but that their eyes would be enlightened and become like God. The outcome of the fall resulted in the death of mankind. As such, there are many sins in the world; however, the greatest of them all is lying and deceit. This is because this results in death alone. Therefore, whenever we witness death in our lives we must be able to discover ‘Satan’s deceit’ behind it.

What was the change that mankind experienced after they had fallen for Satan’s lies? The First change was ‘embarrassment’. Before they sinned the Bible tells us that they were not embarrassed even though they were naked (Gen 2:23). However, as a result of in their sin their clothes of glory were stripped off and the eye of the flesh became enlightened making them realise that they were naked and hence they felt embarrassment. This embarrassment developed into fear and horror. They had hid from the face of the Lord and became outcasts fleeing from mere fear although nobody was coming after them. As such, sin snatches away harmony, peace, and love and makes a huge gap between man and God that cannot be closed and separates us from Him.

Second, the outcome of sin brought great ‘pain’ to mankind. When the first man Adam, and Eve sinned, the ground was cursed and the effect was lost (Gen 4:12). The ground that once produced vegetables and orchards now produced thorns and thistles (Gen 3:18) and they could only eat of the produce through sweat and toil (Gen 3:19). Not only were they subject to physical pain but as a result of leaving God and not always being thankful they lived a life of resentment and grumbling. The apostle Paul comments that this in itself was a great suffering (2 Tim 3:1-2). Consequently, such pain damages a person’s heart and ultimately because of the damage we cannot but live a life that leads to death. That is why Adam had to end his 930 year life with ‘death’ after he had given birth to sons.

Prayer Title

As a result of falling for the lies of the serpent, mankind committed the sin of disobedience which resulted in death. Pray that today you may obey the Word and rely on it to overcome all the temptations of Satan and live a life that is full of the blessing of life.
