낙엽같은 겉사람 인생
고후4:16

생명의 말씀

“그러므로 우리가 낙심하지 아니하노니 겉사람은 후패하나 우리의 속은 날로 새롭도다”

사람들은 인생을 가리켜 ‘낙엽’으로 비유하곤 합니다. 성경은 그러한 사람을 가리켜 ‘겉사람’이라 말합니다. 겉 사람이란 세상에서 육신을 입고 사는 사람으로, 속 사람, 영의 사람이 있는줄 모르는 사람들입니다. 이러한 사람은 첫째, 낙엽성을 띠고 있는 성질의 사람입니다. 고후4:16-17절 말씀과 같이 후패하게 되는 사람을 말합니다. ‘후패’한다는 말은 ‘썩어져서 못쓰게 된다’는 말입니다. 우리의 육신은 이처럼 조만간 썩어져서 못쓰게 되어 버리는 육신이라는 뜻입니다. 하지만 성도들은 이 말씀을 종착역 삼으면 안됩니다. 물론 우리의 육신은 제한적이고 유한한 존재이지만 우리가 믿는 하나님은 없는 가운데 있게 하시고 이 썩을 것을 불가불 썩지 않게 하여 순식간에 홀연히 변화하게 만드시는 분이기 때문에 아무리 낙엽과 같은 생애를 사는 사람이라 할지라도 영원히 사는 속 사람의 생명으로 강건하게 해주시기 때문입니다.

둘째, 겉 사람은 모두가 자기의 위치를 떠날 수 있는 성질의 요소를 가지고 있습니다.

셋째, 자기 정체를 유지할 수 없습니다. 서로 좋다가도 갑자기 다투게 되고 딴 사람이 되는 것을 볼 때 겉 사람은 낙엽과 같이 자기 정체를 유지할 수 없습니다.

넷째, 겉 사람은 시시때때로 변하는 색과 같습니다. 좋은 색으로 페인트를 칠했다가도 얼마 지나게 되면 보기 흉하게 변해서 다른 색으로 다시 칠하기를 반복하듯이 우리 인생도 소년기, 청년기, 장년기, 노년기의 때를 따라 다른 모습으로 바뀌게 됩니다. 제자리에 끝까지 있지 못하고 시간이 흐름에 따라 다 변하고 맙니다. 그래서 고후4:17절에서 보이는 것은 ‘잠간’이라고 말씀하고 있습니다. ‘땅에 자리를 잡고 잠간 머물렀다가 가는 저희들’이라고 바울은 큰 소리로 지금도 선포하고 있습니다. 그러나 이처럼 낙엽같은 겉사람 인생이라 할지라도 하나님을 만나게 되면 하나님의 능력으로 날로 강건해지며 영원한 세계를 사모하는 존재로 바뀌게 됩니다.

<기도제목>

낙엽과 같이 때가되면 떨어져 썩어지는 허무한 겉사람 인생이 아니라 하나님을 만남으로 우리의 속사람은 날로 새로워지며 강건해지는 축복한 하루가 되기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Outwardly Life of a Person That is Like That of a Leaf
2 Corinthians 4:16

The Word of Life

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

People often compare life to a ‘leaf’. In the Bible, that type of person is referred to an ‘outwardly’ being. An outwardly person is a person who has been clothed in the flesh of the world and is a person who does not know that there is an inner person and a spiritual person. First, such a person has the characteristics of a leaf. Just like 2 Corinthians 4:16-17, it refers to a person who is wasting away. To ‘waste away’ means to ‘disintegrate and become useless’ however, a saint mustn’t consider this Word the end. Of course, the human body and life span are limited but He makes us transfigure at the blink of an eye thus even though we are living a life that is like a leaf, He keeps us strong like an inner person who has eternal life.

Second, the outwardly person has the characteristic to leave his/her place.

Third, the outwardly person cannot keep his/her identity. A person cannot sustain his/her identity as one moment they are happy but they are quarreling amongst each other and become different people.

Fourth, the outwardly person is like colours that change constantly. Just as we need to give a wall a fresh coat of paint with a different colour after time to revive its dullness, our lives change its appearance depending on the different stages of our life cycle: toddler, youth, maturity, old age. We cannot remain the same and continue to change. Therefore in 2 Corinthians 4:17, it tells us that the visible things are ‘momentary’. The apostle Paul is still crying out to us in a loud voice that ‘we are but beings that remain momentarily in our place on earth and then leave’. However, even though our life is an outwardly person’s life that I like a leaf, when we meet God and become stronger through the power of God each day we can change into a person who yearns for the eternal world.

Prayer Title

Pray that you may not live the life of an outwardly person who is like a leaf that falls and withers but rather by meeting God become renewed inwardly and receive the blessing of becoming stronger and renewed.
