종말교회의 준비는?
눅12:35-37

생명의 말씀

“허리에 띠를 띠고 등불을 켜고 서 있으라 너희는 마치 그 주인이 혼인 집에서 돌아와 문을 두드리면 곧 열어 주려고 기다리는 사람과 같이 되라 주인이 와서 깨어 있는 것을 보면 그 종들은 복이 있으리로다 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 주인이 띠를 띠고 그 종들을 자리에 앉히고 나아와 수종하리라”

본문에 나오는 종의 모습은 주인이 오기 전에 미리 등불을 켜고 만반의 준비를 갖춰놓고 주인이 와서 문을 두드릴 때 즉시 열어주는 충성스런 종입니다. 이런 종의 모습이야말로 종말을 준비하는 성도의 이상적인 모델이라 할 수 있습니다.

첫째, 말씀을 읽고 듣고 깨달아야 합니다. 예수님은 말세 성도의 자세로 가장 먼저 말씀을 ‘읽을 것’을 지적하셨습니다(마24:15). 성경을 읽는 자만이 다니엘 선지자를 통해서 예언한 말세의 징조를 깨달을 수 있기 때문입니다. 사도요한도 예언의 말씀을 ‘읽는 자’들이 복되다고 하였습니다(계1:3). 이처럼 말씀을 읽는 것은 신랑을 맞이하기 위해 준비하고 있는 신부가 등에 기름을 예비하는 것과도 같습니다. 갑자기 신랑이 올 때 그 때 기름을 준비하면 이미 늦습니다. 미리 말씀을 잘 읽고 듣고 깨닫는 가운데 슬기로운 다섯 처녀와 같이 넉넉하게 기름을 준비하고 깨어 있을 때 신랑을 맞이하라는 소리를 듣자마자 뛰쳐나가 맞이할 수가 있는 것입니다.

둘째, 모든 생활에 정신을 차리고 깨어서 충성해야 합니다. 느헤미야서에 ‘하나냐’라는 인물이 나오는데 그는 “위인으로 충성되어 하나님을 경외함이 무리에서 뛰어난 자”였습니다(느7:2). 여기서 ‘위인’이란 맡은 바 직분에 대해 끝까지 충성하는 믿음의 일꾼을 뜻합니다. 마치 추수하는 날에 얼음냉수처럼 주인의 마음을 시원케 해드리는 사람(잠22:13)입니다. 이처럼 충성스런 일꾼을 모든 생활에 정신을 차리고 깨어있는 자입니다.

셋째, 죄악된 세상에 정을 떼고 말씀만을 붙잡아야 합니다. 인자의 임함이 노아 때와 롯의 때와 같다면, 이 시대의 특징은 세상에 대해 정을 떼야만 한다는 것입니다. 절대 뒤를 돌아다 보지 말라는 천사의 경고는 곧 그동안 몸담았던 세상에 대한 ‘정 떼기’를 명한 것입니다. 롯의 아내는 이를 순종하지 못한 결과 소금기둥이 되고 말았다면 우리는 이를 교훈삼아 세상에 대해서는 정을 떼고 오직 하나님만을 사랑하고 그 말씀에 충성하는 일꾼이 돼야겠습니다.

종말을 살아가는 성도로 어떠한 준비를 하고 있습니까? 오늘 하루도 말씀을 읽고 모든 생활에 정신을 차리고 깨어 충성할뿐 아니라 죄악 세상에 대해 정을 떼는 삶을 살수 있도록 기도하십시오.

Luke 12:35-37

The Word of Life

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

The image of the servant that is portrayed in today’s main scripture reading is of a loyal servant who has prepared everything in advance of his master’s arrival and opens the door for his master immediately when he knocks. This example of the servant can be deemed the most ideal image of a saint who is preparing for the end times.

First, we must read the Word and understand it. Jesus pointed out that the saint living in the end times must ‘read’ the Word (Matt 24:15). This is because only those who read the Word will be able to understand the signs of the end times that the prophet Daniel had prophesied. The apostle Paul said that those who ‘read’ the Word are blessed (Rev 1:3). As such reading the Word is like a bride waiting to greet her groom by preparing oil for the lamp. When the groom shows up suddenly it is too late to prepare the oil. We must become like the prudent five virgins who prepared plenty of oil in advance and greet our groom as soon as we hear him arrive.

Second, we must be alert in all aspects of our lives, be awake and obey. In the book of Nehemiah, we see a man called ‘Hanani’ who was “a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do” (Neh 7:2). Here, ‘a man of integrity’ refers to a worker of faith who was obedient in upholding the task he was responsible for. It is a person who is like a glass of ice cold water that quenches the master’s thirsty heart on the day of harvest (Prov 22:13). Likewise a loyal worker must be awake in all aspects of his/her life.

Third, we must let go of our affection for this sinful world and only hold onto the Word. If the coming of the son of man is like the days of Noah and Lot, then the characteristics of this age tell us to rid of any affection we have for the world. The angel’s warning to never look back also means to ‘get rid of all affection’ we have for this world. Lot’s wife could not obey and as a result she turned to stone. We must consider this a lesson to us and let go of all our affection towards this world and become saints who only love God and are loyal and obedient to His Word.

Prayer Title

What preparations are you making as a saint who is living in the end times? Today, pray that you may not only remain alert and awake in all aspects of your life and obey, but also live a life that separates from the affection you have towards the world.
