한 마리 양에 대한 불타는 마음
눅15:4-6

생명의 말씀

“너희 중에 어느 사람이 양 일백 마리가 있는데 그 중에 하나를 잃으면 아흔 아홉 마리를 들에 두고 그 잃은 것을 찾도록 찾아 다니지 아니하느냐 또 찾은즉 즐거워 어깨에 메고 집에 와서 그 벗과 이웃을 불러 모으고 말하되 나와 함께 즐기자 나의 잃은 양을 찾았노라 하리라”

바리새인과 서기관들이 세리와 죄인들과 함께 먹고 마시는 예수님을 보고 비난하자 예수님께서는 “건강한 자에게는 의원이 쓸데없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸데 있나니 내가 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 불러 회개시키러 왔노라”(눅5:31-32)고 답변하셨습니다. 예수님께서는 잃어버린 한 마리 양을 찾는 비유를 통해 당신의 사명은 회개할 것 없는 아흔 아홉을 위해서가 아니라 연약하고 병들고 죄인 된 한 마리 양을 찾아 구원시키기 위해 오셨음을 분명히 말씀하고 계십니다.

본문에서 목자는 예수님을, 잃어버린 한 마리 양은 세리와 죄인들을 가리킵니다. 세리와 죄인들은 소망이 없는 자요 죄인들입니다. 그러나 주님은 잃어버린 그들을 찾아 구원시켜주기 위해 오신 것입니다. 여기서 100마리 양은 수학적 계수가 아닙니다. 영적인 의미에서 본래 주님께서 작정하신 구원의 숫자입니다. 그 양들이 어디에 있습니까? 늑대와 맹수들이 우글대는 광야에 거한다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 어둠의 세력들이 횡행하는 세대에 살고 있는 현실을 비유해주고 있는 말씀입니다. 예수님께서는 그러한 처지에 있는 양들을 가리켜 ‘나의 잃은 양’(눅15:6)이라고 분명히 말씀하셨습니다.

어느 시대에나 기득권을 가진 자들과 소외계층이 있기 마련입니다. 정치적 특권을 누리는 사람들이 있는가 하면 최소한의 생활도 누리지 못하고 살아가는 사람도 있습니다. 예수님 당시에도 종교적 기득권과 특권을 누렸던 바리새인과 서기관들은 형식과 외식에 얽매여 율법주의적 신앙을 가졌기 때문에 그리스도의 천국은총에 대해서는 가리움을 받게 되었습니다. 그들은 단순히 특권의식만 가졌을 뿐 아니라 세리와 죄인을 멸시하고 하나님의 뜻을 가로막는 자가 되었던 것입니다. 오늘 본문에서 주님은 그들에 맞서 잃어버린 한 마리 양과 같은 죄인된 우리를 구원하시기 위해 오셨다고 말씀하심으로서 한 마리 양에 대한 불타는 사랑의 마음을 나타내 주고 계십니다.

한 마리 양에 대한 불타는 주님의 사랑이 인류를 구원하였고 나를 건지셨습니다. 오늘 하루 주님의 그러한 마음으로 주위를 둘러보고 이웃을 사랑할 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

The Burning Heart Towards One Sheep
Luke 15:4-6

The Word of Life

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he find sit, he joyfully put sit on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’

The Pharisees and Sadducees criticised Jesus when they saw him eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners. At this Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:31-32). Through the parable of the lost sheep he clearly states that his mandate is not to save the 99 who have nothing to repent but in getting that one sheep that is weak, ill and sinful to repent.

In the main scripture reading, Jesus who is the shepherd is pointing to the lost sheep which are the tax collectors and sinner. The tax collectors and sinners are sinners who have no hope. However, the Lord has come to find those whom he has lost and give them salvation. Here the 100 sheep do not refer to a literal numerical count. In a spiritual sense it is the number of salvation that the Lord has decided. Where are those sheep? The Word tells us they reside in the wilderness where it is teeming with wolves and savages. This is a Word that alludes to the era in which is rampant with the powers of darkness. Jesus is pointing to the sheep that are in such circumstances and has called them ‘my lost sheep’ (Luke 15:6).

In any era, it is inevitable that there will be the existence of those who possess power and the marginalized class of people. Moreover if there are people who enjoy political privilege there will be people who cannot even enjoy the bare minimum of life. In the days of Jesus, because the Pharisees and Sadducees who enjoyed political privilege were bound to formalities and led spiritual lives that were based solely on the laws, they were hidden from Christ’s heavenly grace. They not only just possessed mere privileges but despised the tax collectors and sinners and became a people who blocked the will of God. In today’s main scripture the Lord is revealing his blazing heart of love towards the lost sheep and that he has come to save us who are sinners like that lost sheep.

Prayer Title

The burning love of the Lord towards one sheep has saved mankind and us. Today, pray that you may be able to look after and love your neighbours with such a heart.
