눅6:12-13

생명의 말씀

“이때에 예수께서 기도하시러 산으로 가사 밤이 맟도록 하나님께 기도하고 밝으매 그 제자들을 부르사 그 중에서 열둘을 택하여 사도라 칭하셨으니”

예수님의 공생애 삶은 기도의 삶이었습니다. 공생애 시작을 기도로 여셨고(눅3:21), 공생애의 마침도 감람산에서의 기도로 마무리하셨습니다(눅22:39-44). 예수님은 평상시에 기도를 많이 하기 위해 산에 가시되 ‘습관을 좇아’ 가셨습니다. 뿐만 아니라 제자들을 데리고 가셔서 그들에게도 기도의 훈련을 시키셨습니다.

나아가 결정적인 중요한 사건을 앞두고, 문제가 생길 때마다 예수님은 먼저 기도하시고 행동하셨습니다. 대표적인 사건이 열두 제자를 선택하시기 전에 하신 밤샘기도입니다. 예수님은 “기도하시러 산으로 가사 밤이 맟도록 하나님께 기도하고 밝으매” 제자들을 부르사 그 중에 열둘을 택하셨습니다(눅6:12-13). 그야말로 밤을 새워 찬 이슬을 맞아가며 산에서 기도하시고 열둘을 선택하셨기에, 그들이 후에 능력있는 사도로 거듭날 수 있었던 것입니다.

또한 베드로, 요한, 야고보 세 제자를 데리고 “기도하시러 산에 올라가사 기도하실 때에” 용모가 변화되고 그 옷이 희어져 광채가 났습니다(눅9:28-29). 이처럼 기도는 사람의 성품과 인격뿐 아니라 그 용모까지도 변화시키는 능력이 있습니다. 기도할 때 능력을 받습니다. 기도는 시험에 들지 않고 깨어있게 하는 방패와도 같습니다. 그러므로 기도하는 사람은 시험든 사람을 치료하는 능력이 있습니다. 그러나 기도없는 말씀공부, 기도없는 성경공부는 다 가짜입니다. 육의 생각밖에 되지 않습니다. 기도하지 않는 교인은 책임감이 없습니다. 예수님은 기도하시되 십자가에 달려서까지도 기도하신 분입니다. “아버지여, 저희 죄를 용서하소서!”(눅23:34). 전도하신 후 시간 있으면 한적한 곳에 가서 기도하시고, 높은 산에 가서 기도하시고, 제자들에게 기도를 가르치셨습니다. 우리도 예수님의 이러한 기도생활을 본받을 때 감사함으로 깨어있게 됩니다.

예수님은 기도로 시작해서 기도로 당신의 공생애 사역을 마무리 했습니다. 산에 올라가서 밤새도록 기도하시는 가운데 문제를 해결하고 구원사역을 감당했습니다. 오늘 하루, 이러한 예수님의 기도생활을 본받아 능력을 얻고, 변화의 체험을 얻기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles”

Jesus’ public life was a life of prayer. He opened his public ministry through prayer (Luke 3:21) and finished it on top of the Mount of Olives with prayer (Luke 22:39-44). In order to pray more habitually Jesus went up into the mountains. He also took his disciples with him and trained them to pray.

Moreover, when Jesus was faced with an important event or a problem he first prayed and then acted. One example is Jesus’ prayer that lasted all night before he chose the 12 disciples. “Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles” (Luke 6:12-13). Literally because Jesus prayed all night enduring the cold in the mountains before selecting the 12 disciples they were able to grow into powerful apostles.

Furthermore, when he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray “as he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.”(Luke 9:28-29) Likewise, prayer not only has the power to change a person’s character and personality but it also has the power to transform a person’s physical appearance. When we pray we receive this power. Prayer is like a shield that enables us to be

awake and not fall into temptation therefore a person who prays has the power to heal a person who is in temptation. However, all the studies of the Word and the Bible without prayer are false as it can only become thoughts of the flesh. Also, a saint who does not pray doesn’t have responsibility. In Luke 23:34, Jesus prayed until the moment of his death on the cross. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” After evangelizing, if he had time to spare he went to a quiet place and prayed, up on a high mountain top he prayed and he also taught the disciples to pray. We too are able to be awake with thanksgiving when we mirror Jesus’ life of prayer.

Prayer title

Jesus began and completed his public ministry with prayer. He upheld his work of salvation through praying all night up on the mountains for his problems. Pray that today you will be able to imitate Jesus’ life of prayer and receive power and experience transformation.
