호6:1-2

생명의 말씀

“오라 우리가 여호와께로 돌아가자 여호와께서 우리를 찢으셨으나 도로 낫게 하실 것이요 우리를 치셨으나 싸매어 주실 것임이라 여호와께서 이틀 후에 우리를 살리시며 제 삼일에 우리를 일으키시리니 우리가 그 앞에서 살리라”

하나님께서 원하시는 뜻이 있다면 그것은 ‘회개’입니다. 기독교는 죄가 많이 있는 사람은 지옥가고 조금 있는 사람은 천국 간다고 하지 않습니다. 죄가 많든 적든, 죄 있는 사람은 무조건 지옥에 간다고 말씀합니다. 특별히 호세아나 아모스 선지자 당시 이스라엘의 죄악상이 극에 달했기에 그들을 통해 이스라엘 백성들의‘회개’를 촉구하고 계십니다.

호세아 선지자나 아모스 선지자 당시의 죄악상은 어떠할까요? 성경이 증거하는 내용을 자세히 살펴볼 때 성적인 타락과 경제적 착취, 사치 등으로 요약할 수 있습니다. 당시 사람들은 소돔 고모라 성 사람들을 뺨칠 정도여서, 한 여자에게 부자(父子)가 드나들 정도로 타락했습니다. 또한 가진 자는 없는 자의 영혼을 신발 한 켤레 값으로 사고, 가난한 자의 머리 속에 있는 먼지까지도 탐내며, 여름 별장과 겨울 별장을 만들어 호화스런 생활을 하고 있다고 고발하고 있습니다. 그리하여 아모스 선지자는 이러한 자들을 가리켜 ‘바산 암소들아!’(암4:1)라고 책망하고 있습니다. 여기서 바산의 암소들은 사치와 호화스러운 생활을 하는 가운데 죄를 짓는 당시 부유층의 아내들을 지칭하는 말입니다. 삼손도 수수께끼의 비밀을 블레셋 성읍 사람들이 알아 맞추자 아내와 내통한 것을 알아차리고 아내를 가리켜 ‘내 암송아지’(삿14:18)라고 표현하였습니다. 따라서 ‘암송아지’란 표현은 당시 여인들의 사치와 성적 타락을 빗댄 표현임을 알 수 있습니다.

예수님께서는 생각지 않은 방법으로 오신다고 하셨습니다(마24:44). 우리가 생각지 않은 때, 생각지 않은 방법으로 오시는 주님은 회개함으로 깨어서 미리 준비한 자만이 영접할 수가 있습니다. 바산의 암소처럼 사치와 향락과 죄악의 바다에 빠져 허우적거릴 것이 아니라 진심어린 회개로 하나님께 돌아가기를 원하고 계십니다. 하나님께로 돌아갈 때 하나님은 우리를 싸매시고 치료하사 낫게 해주십니다.

<기도제목>

‘하나님께로 돌아오라!’ 이것이 호세아나 아모스 선지자의 일관된 메시지였습니다. 지금 여러분이 어떠한 자리에, 어떠한 모습으로 있든지 이 말씀을 듣고 즉각 돌이켜 하나님께 나아갈 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

Hosea 6:1-2

The Word of Life

“Come; let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.”

God’s will is ‘repentance.’ Christianity does not say that people with more sin will go to hell and people with less sin will go to heaven. Regardless of how great or little our sins may be it tells us that a person who has sin will definitely go to hell. Especially in the days of the prophet Hosea and Amos, when the sins of the Israelites had reached its peak, God is hastening the Israelites’ ‘repentance’ through them.

What kind of sin was prevalent during the prophet Hosea and Amos’ time? When we observe the contents that the Bible testifies, it included sexual immorality, economic exploitation, and fraud etc. The people of the time were worse than the people of Sodom and Gomorrah that a son and a father had sexual relations with one woman. Further, the rich bought the soul of the poor at the price of a pair of shoes, they were so greedy that they even wanted the dust that was in a poor man’s hair, and they made summer homes and winter homes and lived lavishly extravagant lives. As such the prophet Amos pointed to these people and rebuked them saying “hear this word, you cows of Bashan” (Amos 4:1).

Here the cows of Bashan refer to the wives of the rich who sinned whilst living luxury and extravagant lives. Samson is expressing his wife as a ‘heifer calf’ (Jud 14:18) after he found out that she had fornicated with the Philistines once the Philistines solved the secret of the riddle. Therefore, the expression ‘heifer calf’ referred to the luxurious life and sexual immorality of women of that time.

Jesus said that he would come with a method that we cannot contemplate (Matt 24:44). We can only meet Jesus who comes when we least think it, if we remain awake through repentance. We shan’t be fallen in the sea of sin like the cows of Bashan immersed in luxurious lives and pleasure but rather He wants us to repent sincerely and return to Him. When we return to God, God will embrace us and heal us.

Prayer Title

‘Return to God!’ this is the same message that the prophet Hosea and Amos proclaimed. Pray that whatever situation and position you may be in, you may be able to listen to the Word and immediately return to God.
