꿀과 송이 꿀을 먹자
잠24:13-14

생명의 말씀

“내 아들아 꿀을 먹으라 이것이 좋으니라 송이꿀을 먹으라 이것이 네 입에 다니라 지혜가 네 영혼에게 이와 같은 줄을 알라 이것을 얻으면 정녕히 네 장래가 있겠고 네 소망이 끊어지지 아니하리라”

잠언서 기자는 오늘 우리에게 ‘꿀과 송이꿀’을 먹으라고 권면하고 있습니다. ‘꿀’은 일반적으로 심장을 강하게 하는 좋은 약으로 이용되고 있으나 본문에서 ‘꿀과 송이꿀’은 지혜’를 상징하는 의미로 사용되었습니다. 꿀과 송이꿀을 먹을 때 우리 마음이 뜨거워져 주의 일에 헌신할뿐 아니라 신령한 지혜를 받아 선한 일에 충성할 수 있기 때문입니다.

마음 속에 뜨거운 은혜의 체험이 있는 사람들은 삶에 활력을 얻게 됩니다. 마음이 즐겁고 기쁩니다. 영혼이 소성하고 지혜가 샘솟듯 솟아납니다. 또한 눈과 귀가 밝아져서 하나님께서 원하시는 선한 일을 할 수 있는 능력자들이 되는 것입니다. 바로 꿀과 송이꿀을 먹은 사람들의 모습입니다. 딤후3:16-17절 말씀을 볼 때 “모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하다”고 하셨듯이, 하나님의 말씀의 꿀은 모든 사람들을 의로 교육하여 선한 일에 힘쓰게 만들어 줍니다. 예수님께서도 십자가에서 당신의 보혈의 피를 흘려 우리를 구원해 주심으로써 선한 일에 열심하는 친 백성으로 만들어 주셨습니다(딛2:14, 3:8, 엡2:10). 그러므로 모든 생활에 꿀과 송이꿀을 먹는 사람들은 선한 일에 힘쓰는 자들입니다.

그러면 언제 이러한 꿀 맛을 경험하게 될까요? 그것은 성경을 읽을 때 주어진다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 잠16:24절을 볼 때 “선한 말은 꿀송이 같아서 마음에 달고 뼈에 양약이 된다”고 말씀하고 있습니다. 계1:3절에서도 성경을 읽고, 듣고, 기록된 것을 지키는 자들에게 복이 있다고 분명히 말씀하고 있습니다. 이 말씀을 읽고 깨달을 때 그 깨달아지는 기쁨이 바로 꿀맛과 같이 달콤하고 사람의 마음에 유익을 줍니다. 베다니에 거주하던 마르다와 마리아 자매의 경우에서도 알 수 있듯이 세상의 분주한 일보다도 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자리가 더욱 복되고 꿀맛과 같이 마음을 뜨겁게 하여 하나님의 뜻에 합당한 선한 일을 할 수 있도록 붙잡아 주는 것입니다(눅10:38-42).

꿀과 송이꿀보다 더 달콤하고 유익한 하나님의 말씀을 받아 먹음으로 신령한 지혜를 받아 선한 일에 충성하는 삶을 살기 위해 기도하십시오.

Proverbs 24:13-14

The Word of Life

Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

The author of Proverbs is teaching us to eat ‘honey from the comb’. Traditionally, ‘honey’ is renowned for its medicinal properties that strengthen the heart however in today’s main scripture reading ‘honey and honey comb’ is being used to symbolize ‘wisdom’. When we eat honey and honey comb our hearts start to blaze and we are not only able to devote ourselves to doing the Lord’s work but also receive the true wisdom and put our devotion into righteous work.

The individual whose heart experiences the burning grace receives energy in their lives. Their heart becomes joyous and happy and their spirit is restored and wisdom shoots out like the spring waters. Furthermore, their eye and ears become enlightened and they become people of power who carry out the righteous tasks that God desires. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 it is written, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”. As such the honey of the Word of God educates all people through righteousness and equips them to do good work. Jesus also gave his life for us on the cross in order to give us salvation and made us His people who are equipped to do good work (Tit 2:14, 3:8, Eph 2:10). Therefore those who eat honey and honeycomb in all aspects of their lives are people who strive to do good work.

Then when can we experience eating such honey? The Bible states that when we read the Bible it will be given to us. In Proverbs 16:24, it is written “gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” In Revelations 1:3 it also says that those who read, and listen to the Bible and keep its decrees are blessed. When we read the Word and understand it, the joy of understanding the Word is like the sweet taste of honey and is valuable to the heart. As we can see from the example of the sisters Martha and Mary, the place of listening to the Word of God is more important than being busy with the things of the World. It makes our heart burn like the taste of honey and keeps us grounded so that we can carry out righteous deeds that are acceptable in the eyes of God. (Luke 10:38-42).

Prayer Title

Pray that by eating the Word of God that is sweeter than honey and honey comb, you may be able to receive spiritual wisdom so that you can live a life that is devoted to good work.
