나그네 인생들의 참 길
창47:8-9

생명의 말씀

“바로가 야곱에게 묻되 네 연세가 얼마뇨 야곱이 바로에게 고하되 내 나그네 길의 세월이 일백 삼십년이니이다 나의 연세가 얼마 못되니 우리 조상의 나그네 길의 세월에 미치지 못하나 험악한 세월을 보내었나이다 하고”

나그네 인생이란 고향을 향해 순례하는 삶을 말합니다. 그러나 나그네는 본향에 당도하기까지 길에서 겪는 고생, 즉 피로와 외로움과 그리움 등 많은 아픔을 안고 가는 사람입니다. 이러한 나그네 인생들이 걸어가야 할 참 길은 무엇일까요?

첫째, 불필요한 것을 버리고 가는 삶입니다. 야곱은 애굽 왕 바로 앞에서 “내 나그네 길의 세월”이라고 하였습니다. 이처럼 나그네로 인생을 산다는 것은 불필요한 것들을 과감히 청산하며 버리는 것을 뜻합니다. 베드로는 “그물을 버려두고”(마4:20) 예수를 좇았으며, 마태와 삭개오는 돈을 취급하는 세리였지만 그것들을 다 버리고 주님을 좇았습니다. 불필요한 것들을 버리고 주님을 좇아 신령한 나그네 인생길을 택한 자들의 모습입니다.

둘째, 목적지를 알지 못하고 가는 길입니다. 나그네 인생을 ‘부평’(浮萍)같은 삶에 비유한 것도 ‘물에 떠다니는 개구리밥’처럼 정처없이 목적없이 떠다니는 인생이기 때문입니다. 사람은 “하루 동안이 무슨 일이 일어날지 알 수 없으며”(잠27:1), “잠간 보이다 없어지는 안개”(약4:14)와 같기에 부평같은 나그네 인생이라 하는 것입니다. 그러나 성도의 삶은 분명한 목적지가 있습니다. “길이요 진리요 생명”(요14:6)되신 예수 그리스도의 인도함을 받아 영원한 하늘나라를 향해 달려가는 인생, 그것이 사도바울처럼 분명한 ‘푯대’(빌3:14)를 향해 달려가는 신령한 나그네 인생입니다.

셋째, 예수께서 성도의 나그네 인생길에 동반자가 되어 주십니다. 예수님만이 우리 인생의 영원한 위로자요 동반자로서 끝까지 지켜주고 붙잡아 주시고, 하나님 아버지께로 인도해 주시는 분입니다. 이 땅에서 선한 싸움을 다 싸우고 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지키기까지(딤후4:7) 주께서 나그네 인생의 동반자가 되어주십니다. 험난한 여정에 위로자가 되어 주십니다. 하나님 품에 당도할 때까지 영원한 인도자가 되어 주십니다.

<기도제목>

나그네에게 많은 짐은 커다란 장애가 됩니다. 주와 함께 하는 나그네 여정에 불필요한 모든 것들을 버리고, 푯대를 향해 주님의 인도와 보호로 끝까지 달려갈 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

The True Path of a Sojourner’s Life
Genesis 47:8-9

The Word of Life

Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?” And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “They ears of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of myf athers.”

The life of a sojourner refers to a life that goes on a pilgrimage towards the hometown. However the sojourner endures much suffering on the road. This includes the exhaustion, loneliness and many hardships before he reaches his hometown. Then what is the true path that a sojourner must undertake?

First, it is a life that discards all unnecessary things. Jacob stood before the Pharaoh and said to him “[these are] the years of my pilgrimage”. As such living a life of a sojourner signifies resoluteness in settling all unnecessary things. Peter “left their nets” (Matt 4:20) and followed Jesus, and although Matthew and Zacchaeus were tax collectors who dealt with money, they left everything and followed Jesus. This is the image of those who disposed of all unnecessary things and chose the true sojourner’s path by choosing to follow the Lord.

Second, it is a life that proceeds onward without knowing the destination. The reason the life of a sojourner is compared with a life that is like “a frog’s meal floating in water” because it is a life that wanders without a purpose. A person “cannot know what will happen throughout a day” (Prov 27:1), and lives a life that is “like a mist of fog that disappears” (James 4:14). However, the life of a saint has definite destination. It is a life that is led by Jesus Christ who is “the way, truth, and life” (John 14:6) and runs forth towards the eternal kingdom of heaven. Such is a life of a true sojourner who runs forth towards a definite ‘sign’ (Phil 3:14) like the apostle Paul.

Third, Jesus Christ becomes a companion to the saint who walks the path of a sojourner’s life. Only Jesus is the eternal comforter of our lives. He watches over us as our partner until the end and leads us to God the father. Until we finish fighting the good fight on this earth and keep our faith (1 Tim 4:7), the Lord becomes our companion. He becomes our comforter during a rough journey. He becomes our eternal leader until we reach the bosom of God.

Prayer Title

Lots of baggage functions as a large disability for a sojourner. May we discard all unnecessary things in a sojourner’s journey and pray that we can run forth towards the sign and the Lord’s guidance and protection until the very end.
