찬송의 옷을 입자

생명의 말씀

“무릇 시온에서 슬퍼하는 자에게 화관을 주어 그 재를 대신하며 희락의 기름으로 그 슬픔을 대신하며 찬송의 옷으로 그 근심을 대신하고 그들로 의의 나무 곧 여호와의 심으신 바 그 영광을 나타낼 자라 일컬음을 얻게 하려 하심이니라”

하나님을 만나고 하나님께 영광돌리는 가장 좋은 방법이 있다면 바로 ‘찬송’입니다. 하나님은 찬송 가운데 거하시는 분이며(시22:3), 찬송을 부르게 하기 위하여 사람을 창조하셨기 때문입니다(사43:21). 예수님께서도 예루살렘 성에 입성하실 때 아이들이 “호산나 다윗의 자손이여”라고 회치자 이를 만류해달라는 종교 지도자들의 요청을 거절하셨습니다. 왜냐하면 이러한 외침 자체가 당신에 대한 ‘찬양’이기 때문에 예수님은 어린 아이들의 입술을 통해 찬송받기를 원하셨던 것입니다. 따라서 찬송이란 “하나님의 하나님 되심에 대한 피조물의 응답”이라 할 수 있습니다.

이러한 찬송의 대상은 오직 역사의 승리자이신 하나님 한분만이 합당하십니다. 계시록에서는 네 생물들과 장로들, 많은 천사들이 큰 음성으로 찬송하며 “죽임 당하신 어린 양이 능력과 부와 지혜와 힘과 존귀와 영광과 찬송을 받으시기에 합당하도다”(계5:12)라고 하였습니다. 이러한 계시록의 경배는 ‘찬송’이 그 핵심을 이루고 있습니다. 그러므로 계시록 전체를 볼 때, 첫 번째 예배 광경이 창조주 하나님에 대한 장로들의 찬양으로 시작됩니다(계4:10-11). 두 번째는 속죄주 어린 양에 대한 찬양(5:9-12), 세 번째는 왕되신 그리스도, 심판자이신 그리스도께 대한 감사의 찬양(계11:16-18)이 등장하며, 마지막으로 신랑되신 그리스도께 대한 찬양(계19:1-3,7)이 나타나고 있습니다.

The Word of Life

“And provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”

Praising God is the best way to meet God and glorify Him. It is because God dwells amidst praise (Psa 22:3) and because He created mankind to sing praises (Psa 43:21). When Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem and the children cried “Hosanna the son of David” he refused the religious leaders’ request to stop them. This was because the cry itself was praise for Jesus therefore he wanted to be praised through the lips of the children. Accordingly, “praise is the creations answer to the Godliness of God”.

The object of such praise is only God who is the one and only victor. In the book of Revelation the four creations, elders and many angels praised loudly, “in a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” (Rev 5:12). At the center of worship in Revelation is “praise”.

Therefore, when we look at the entire book of Revelation we see the first worship scene begin with the elder’s praise for God (Rev 4:10-11). Second, is the praise for the savior, the lamb, third, the Christ the King and then we see the praise of thanksgiving about Christ, the judge (Rev 11:16-18) and finally the praise about Christ who becomes our groom (Rev 19:1-3, 7).

Likewise, the central theme of the entire book of Revelation is related to “praise” and it is teaching us to change our lives into the garments praise and transform our live instead of being anxious. We should not only sing praises during worship but rather from the center f our lives through our lips and actions. This true spiritual praise can only be uplifted to God by those who are clothed in the garments of praise. Just as the prophet Isaiah proclaimed we must put on “a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair” (Isa 61:3) and whatever worries and anxieties we may have, the moment we praise God is the moment we will be given the blessing of joy and happiness of eating and drinking before God (Exo 24:11).

What worries and anxieties do you have? Pray that when you put on the garment of praise and sing praises before God you will be given the blessing of joy and happiness.
