일곱눈의 역사

생명의 말씀

“내가 또 보니 보좌와 네 생물과 장로들 사이에 어린 양이 섰는데 일찍 죽임을 당한 것 같더라 일곱 뿔과 일곱 눈이 있으니 이 눈은 온 땅에 보내심을 입은 하나님의 일곱 영이더라”

성경은 인류 역사의 시작과 마지막이 눈에서 시작하여 눈에서 끝난다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이는 아담이나 노아 당시의 인류의 타락이 눈에서 비롯됐고, 예수님 당시의 이스라엘 백성들도 잘못된 눈을 가져 심판을 받은 것이기 때문입니다. 이러한 측면에서 오늘 본문에 말씀하고 있는 어린양 되시는 예수 그리스도의 ‘일곱 눈’에 대하여 살펴보고자 합니다.

창6:1-2절 말씀을 볼 때 노아 당시의 타락상은 ‘하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들의 아름다움을 보고’ 라는 말씀에 잘 나타나 있습니다. 이는 노아 당시의 믿음의 아들들이 온전히 바라봐야 할 것을 보지 못하고 세상의 아름다움을 보는 타락한 눈을 가짐으로 물 심판으로 멸망당하고 말았음을 깨닫게 해줍니다. 아담과 하와의 타락도 마찬가지입니다. 창3:6절에서 하와가 금지된 선악나무를 ‘본즉’, 하와의 눈이 잘못되어 타락의 길로 치닫고 있었던 것입니다. 예수님 당시에도 날 때부터 보지 못한 소경을 주셨지만 이스라엘 백성들은 이것을 참 영적인 눈을 뜨게 해주는 축복의 표시로 보지 못했습니다. 그래서 예수님은 제대로 깨닫지 못하고 믿지 못하면서 믿는척 하는 당시 종교 지도자들을 향해 “보지 못하는 자들은 보게 하고 보는 자들은 소경이 되게 하려 함이라”고 말씀하셨던 것입니다(요9:39-41).

예수님은 “온 세상에 두루 행하는 여호와의 눈”(슥4:10)을 가지신 분입니다. 그분의 눈은 은밀한데를 보시는 눈입니다. 빌립의 전도를 받은 나다나엘에 대하여 “이는 참 이스라엘 사람이라 그 속에 간사한 것이 없도다”(요1:45-48)라고 말씀하신 것을 볼 때, 예수님은 나다나엘의 중심까지 꿰뚫어보는 눈을 가지고 계셨던 것입니다. 또한 예수님의 눈은 ‘의인을 향하시는 눈’(벧전3:12)입니다. 그래서 마지막 심판은 의인 중에서 악인을 골라내는 것입니다. 악인이 의인의 회중에 절대 들지 못합니다. 오직 하나님의 눈동자, 어린 양의 일곱 눈의 축복이 머무는 사람은 하나님의 말씀을 멸시치 않고(잠13:13) 생명의 양식으로 삼는 의인들인 것입니다.

오늘 하루 여러분의 눈을 무엇을 보며 무엇을 지향하고 있습니까? 아담이나 노아 당시처럼 불의를 바라보지 말고 오직 예수 그리스도의 일곱 눈의 은총을 받아 신령을 것을 꿰뚫어 볼 수 있는 축복된 한날이 되기 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out in to all the earth.

The Bible teaches us that the beginning and end of the history of mankind starts and ends with the eye. This is because the fall of mankind was due to the eye and because during the times of Jesus the Israelites were judged as they had an incorrect eye. Viewed from such a perspective, let us examine the ‘seven eyes’ of Jesus Christ who is the lamb.

When we read Genesis 6:1-2 we can see how fallen mankind was as it is recorded, “the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful”. This allows us to understand that the sons of faith in Noah’s times could not see what they had to see but rather sought after the beauties of the world and had fallen eyes which resulted in the flood judgment. It was likewise in the fall of Adam and Eve. In Genesis 3:6, Eve ‘saw’ the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and took the wrong path of fall. In the days of Jesus, there were blind people who were visually impaired from birth; however the Israelites couldn’t see this as a symbol to truly open their spiritual eyes. Thus, Jesus told the religious leaders who did not understand properly nor believe and pretend to believe that “for judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind” (John 9:39-41).

Jesus is the one who has “the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth” (Zech 4:10). His eyes see the most intimate places. When we see Jesus speak of Nathanael who had been evangelized by Phillip, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit” (John 1:45-48) Jesus had eyes that saw through the core of Nathanael.

Furthermore, Jesus’ eyes were ‘eyes that are on the righteous’ (1 Pet 3:12). Therefore, the final judgment picks out the wicked from the righteous. The wicked cannot attend the assembly of the righteous. Only the righteous person who eyes of God and where the lamb’s seven eyes of blessing dwell will not despise the Word of God (Prov 13:13), and consider it their bread of life.

Prayer title

What are your eyes seeing today and what are they aimed at? Just like in the days of Adam and Noah, do not look at what is unjust and pray that you may be able to only receive the blessing of the seven eyes of Jesus Christ.
