하나님이 기뻐하시는 기도의 향기
고후2:14-16

생명의 말씀

“항상 우리를 그리스도 안에서 이기게 하시고 우리로 말미암아 각처에서 그리스도를 아는 냄새를 나타내시는 하나님께 감사하노라 우리는 구원얻는 자들에게나 망하는 자들에게나 하나님 앞에서 그리스도의 향기니 이 사람에게는 사망으로 좇아 사망에 이르는 냄새요 저 사람에게는 생명으로 좇아 생명에 이르는 냄새라 누가 이것을 감당하리요”

예수님은 육체에 계실 때에 자기를 죽음에서 능히 구원하실 이에게 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구와 소원을 올렸습니다(히5:7-9). 하나님이신 예수님도 이처럼 간절히 기도하셨는데 우리가 각자 가정과 가족을 위해, 죄의 문제를 놓고 하나님 앞에 이처럼 심하게 통곡해본 적이 있습니까? 향수병에 들어있는 향수도 뚜껑을 열 때 밖으로 그 향기가 나듯, 기도도 우리의 입술을 통해 토해낼 때에야 향기가 되어 하나님께 상달되는 것입니다.

눅1:9-10절 말씀을 보면 세례요한의 아버지 사가랴가 분향할 때에 백성들은 기도했다고 분명히 기록되어 있습니다. 또한 눅22:39-44절 말씀을 보면 예수님께서는 십자가를 앞두고 겟세마네 동산에서 기도하시되 ‘힘쓰고 애써 더욱 간절히’ 기도하셨다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 억조창생 인류의 모든 죄악을 걸머지고 기도하는 주님의 모습을 보십시요. 기도는 하나님과 끊어진 것을 연결시키는 고리이며 하나님이 기뻐하시는 향기로운 냄새인 것입니다.

그러므로 우리는 기도하되 첫째 간절히 기도해야 합니다. 겟세마네 동산의 쥐어 짜는 예수님의 기도처럼 마치 참기름을 짜듯 간절한 기도가 있습니까? 기도는 육신의 기름만 아니라 정신적인 기름, 또한 마음의 기름, 하나님께 간절히 부르짖는 모든 기름을 짜듯 그렇게 애쓰고 힘써야 합니다. 사도바울은 고린도후서 8장에서 자그마치 일곱 번이나 ‘간절히’ 간구한다고 하였습니다. ‘간절히’의 뜻은 “모든 것을 잊어버리고 어떠한 목적을 위해서 한 가지만 집중하는” 자세를 말합니다. 이처럼 간절한 기도가 없으면 소돔 고모라같은 죄악 세상에서 능히 살아남을 수가 없습니다.

두번째는 기도한 것에 대해 반드시 응답이 있다는 확신을 가지고 기도해야 하며 세번째는 나의 모든 사정을 하나님께 아뢰는 동시에 의논한다는 믿음을 가지고 기도해야 합니다. 기도하되 ‘무시로’ 하라고 말씀하고 있습니다(엡6:18). 그러한 기도를 하나님께서 흠향하십니다. 천사를 통해 기도의 향을 담아 받으십니다(계5:8, 계8:3-4).

날마다 간절한 기도로 우리의 삶 속에서 하나님께서 기뻐하실만한 아름다운 향, 주위 사람들에게 큰 은혜를 기칠 수 있는 그리스도의 향기를 내뿜는 삶을 살아갈 수 있기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?

When Jesus was in flesh he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death (Heb 5:7-9). As such, Jesus who was God prayed fervently but have we prayed before God with fervent cries and tear for our household and family, and our sins? Just as the scent of perfume is released once we open the bottle, when we open our mouths in prayer it will become a scent and be delivered to God.

When we read Luke 1:9-10 it is written that when Zechariah, John the Baptist’s father offered up incense the saints prayed. Furthermore, in Luke 22:39-44 just before Jesus faced crucifixion on the cross he went up to the mount of Olives and prayed more earnestly. Look at the Lord pray for the sins of all mankind. Prayer is the key that links what has been cut off from God and a fragrant scent that God is pleased with.

Therefore, we must pray and first pray earnestly. Is there a more earnest prayer than that of Jesus’ up in the garden of Gethsemane? Prayer is not only a fuel for our flesh but for our minds and hearts. We must pray with an earnest fervency when praying to God. In 2 Corinthians chapter 8 he used the word ‘earnestly’ 7 times. The meaning of the word ‘earnestly’ refers to an attitude that “forgets all things and concentrates on one purpose”. As such if we do not pray earnestly we will not be able to survive in this sinful world that is like Sodom and Gomorrah.

Secondly, we must pray with conviction that God will answer our prayers and thirdly, we must pray with a heart that consults God regarding all of our problems. The Bible tells us we must pray at all times (Eph 6:18). God receives such prayer. He collects the scent of prayers through the angels (Rev 5:8, 8:3-4).

Prayer Title

Pray that you may let out a fragrant scent that God delights in by praying earnestly and live a life that gives great grace to those around you and a life that only lets out the aroma of Christ.
