마른 나무 지팡이
민17:8

생명의 말씀

“이튿날 모세가 증거의 장막에 들어가 본즉 레위 집을 위하여 낸 아론의 지팡이에 움이 돋고 순이 나고 꽃이 피어서 살구 열매가 열렸더라”

이스라엘 백성들의 광야 40년 여정은 오늘날 크리스천들의 신앙생활의 모델이요 축소판이라 할 수 있습니다. 광야생활 중 수 없는 기사이적을 체험했지만 끊임없는 불평과 불만으로 하나님의 진노를 샀던 것이 이스라엘 백성들의 모습이라면, 오늘날 성도들 또한 수많은 하나님의 은혜를 체험하며 누리고 살고 있음에도 순간순간 하나님의 말씀에 불순종하고 대적하려 했던 적이 얼마나 많았습니까?

광야생활 중 이스라엘 백성들의 영적인 상태는 ‘마른 나무 지팡이’라 할 수 있겠습니다. 그만큼 그들의 마음과 영적인 상태는 메말라 있었고, 생명이 없는 상태였던 것입니다. 그러나 사실 40년간의 광야여정은 이스라엘 백성들이 기적의 노다지를 캐는 순간이었습니다. 갈라진 홍해 바다를 모세의 영도 하에 마른 육지사이로 걷는 기적도 체험하였고, 아침마다 하나님께서 내려 주시는 만나를 먹는 체험도 하였던 것입니다. 자고 나면 일용할 양식을 허락해 주셨습니다. 가나안 땅에 들어가서는 가나안 7족속을 하나하나 멸하고 정복해 나가는 가운데 하나님께서 주신 기업의 땅을 받아 누리는 축복도 체험했습니다. 이처럼 광야 40년 이스라엘 백성들의 삶은 하나님의 은혜와 기적을 체험하는 나날의 연속이었습니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 이스라엘 백성들은 만족과 감사가 없이 오직 불평과 원망으로 하나님 앞에 섰습니다. 나아가 모세의 권위와 지도력을 의심하고 도전했습니다. 그래서 사단은 250여명의 이스라엘 지도자들을 꾀어 모세에게 대적하게 했습니다. 그 중에서도 ‘고라’는 모세와 아론과는 사촌간임에도 불구하고(출6:16-21) 백성들을 선동했습니다. 이들의 선동을 잠재우고 아론의 지도력을 세우시기 위해 하나님은 마른 나무 지팡이를 통해 역사하신 것입니다. 아론의 싹난 지팡이는 바로 마른 막대기같이 메마른 이스라엘의 신앙에 대한 경고요 하나님의 사람의 권위를 확고해 세우신 표증이었던 것입니다.

마른 나무 지팡이 같이 메마른 이스라엘의 심령을 책망하사 싹난 지팡이로 소생시켜주시는 하나님의 놀라운 역사가 우리의 삶 속에서도 일어날 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

Numbers 17:8

The Word of Life

"Now on the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds."(Numbers 17:8)

Israelite’s 40 years in the wilderness has been a model for Christian believers. Israelites continued to murmur and complain even among the multitude of miracles and signs God performed. Today, we have also experienced God’s grace, but many times, we also disobey His commands and defy Him.

The state of the Israelites during the wilderness can be compared to a “rod made of dry wood”. Their heart and spiritual status were dry - they lacked life. However, the 40 years in the wilderness were filled with an array of God’s miracles. First, the Red Sea was split, so that they walked through on dry land. Second, they ate of the manna that God sent down each morning. When they woke up, food was already there for them. Third, once they entered the land of Canaan, God blessed them to overcome the natives to occupy the land. Israelites experienced God’s grace and miracles during the 40 years in the wilderness.

Even with these great experiences, the Israelites were unsatisfied and ungrateful. They murmured and complained against God. They also defied against Moses and his leadership. Satan moved 250 leaders who defy against Moses. Among them, Korah, cousin of Moses and Aaron (Exodus 6:16-21) moved the people to rebel against Moses.

God made Aaron’s rod to bud to let them know that He had chosen Aaron to lead over them. Aaron’s budded rod represents the warning God had given to Israelites’ dry hearts to acknowledge His authority.

God made Aaron’s rod to bud in order to move the dry hearts of people. Let us pray that we can experience God’s miracles given to us.
