만나의 오묘한 법칙 2
신 8:3,16

생명의 말씀

”너를 낮추시며 너로 주리게 하시며 또 너도 알지 못하며 네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 네게 먹이신 것은 사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 여호와의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 사는 줄을 너로 알게 하려 하심이니라, 16)네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 광야에서 네게 먹이셨나니 이는 다 너를 낮추시며 너를 시험하사 마침내 네게 복을 주려 하심이었느니라”

하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들에게 만나를 내리신 이유에 대해 성경은 세 가지로 말씀하고 있습니다. 첫째, 하나님의 말씀을 순종하는지 시험하기 위해서입니다(출16:4). 만나의 법칙은 ‘일용할 양식’을 거두는 것입니다. 즉 매일 그 날 필요한 분량만큼의 양식만을 거두는 것입니다. 금요일에는 예외적으로 이틀치 분량을 거둡니다. 이는 안식일 준수를 위한 배려였습니다. 육의 양식으로부터 벗어나 오직 하나님만을 경배하고 예배하는 날이 안식일이기에 그날은 만나를 주시지 않았습니다. 하지만 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님의 말씀에 제대로 순종하지 않고 욕심으로 많은 분량을 거뒀다가 상해서 버리기도 했고, 안식일에 거두러 나갔다가 허탕을 치기도 했습니다. 하나님은 매일매일 일용할 양식을 거두는 만나의 법칙을 통해 말씀에 온전히 순종하는 백성으로 훈련하길 원하셨던 것입니다.

둘째, 하나님의 말씀으로 산다는 것을 믿게하기 위함입니다(신8:3). 즉, 만나를 주신 이유는 사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 하나님의 말씀으로 산다는 것을 깨우쳐 주시기 위해서였습니다. 사실 만나는 이스라엘이 손가락 하나 움직이지 않고 얻은 하늘 양식이요 하나님께서 주신 신령한 식물입니다. 사람이 자신의 노력과 수고를 통해 얻지 않고서도 말씀에 순종함으로서 얻게 된 양식인 것입니다.

셋째, 이스라엘을 낮추시고 연단하려는 목적에서 주셨습니다(신8:16). 하나님의 백성을 낮추시고 시험하시는 목적은 ‘마침내’ 복을 주시기 위함입니다. 환란과 고통으로 학대하고자 함이 아닙니다. 자신의 생각과 고집을 버리고 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 가운데 힘들지만 묵묵히 그 과정을 통과하면 결국 하나님께서 준비해 놓으신 큰 복이 있습니다. 하나님은 40년 동안 만나를 주셨지만 그 양식에 복을 주셔서 병을 제하시는 복(출23:25)으로 인도하셨습니다.

만나의 오묘한 법칙을 통해 온전히 하나님의 말씀에 순종함으로서 하나님의 말씀으로 살아가고 마침내 예비하신 축복을 받아 누릴 수 있도록 기도하십시오.

The Word of Life

“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

The Bible tells us three reasons why God rained down manna on the Israelites. First, it was to test them to see if they would obey the Word of God (Exo 16:4). The law of manna is ‘gathering daily bread’. Hence it is gathering just enough food required for the day. On Fridays they gathered two days’ supply of manna. This was in order for them to keep the Sabbath day. This was a day where they were free from the food of the flesh and only praised and worshipped God thus God did not provide them with manna on the Sabbath day. However the Israelites did not obey the Word of God properly and gathered as much manna as they desired. As a result the remaining manna began to rot and when they went out to collect manna on the Sabbath day, they returned empty handed. God wanted to train His people to become completely obedient to the Word through the law of manna which required them to collect manna daily.

Second, it was to make them believe living through the Word of God (Deut 8:3). Thus, the reason He gave them manna was to teach them that man does not live on bread alone but by the Word of God. Manna was a spiritual food of the heavens that God gave to the Israelites which didn’t require them to lift a finger in order to obtain it. This was food that was obtained without the toil and labor of man but solely by obeying the Word.

Third, He gave the Israelites manna to test and humble them (Deut 8:16). God’s purpose in humbling and testing His people is to

‘ultimately’ give them blessings and not to abuse them through hardships and suffering. Although it is difficult to dispose of our own thoughts and stubbornness and obey God’s Word but when we pass through that process at the end is a great blessing that God has prepared for us. God gave the Israelites manna for 40 years but blessed the food that they ate and led them through a blessing that prevented disease or illness (Exo 23:25).

Prayer Title

Through the profound law of manna by obeying in the Word of God completely pray that you may be able to live according to the Word of God and receive and enjoy the blessings that God has prepared.
