성도가 항상 힘써야 하는 일은?

생명의 말씀

“또 우리 사람들도 열매 없는 자가 되지 않게 하기 위하여 필요한 것을 예비하는 좋은 일에 힘쓰기를 배우게 하라”

믿는 성도가 세상을 살아갈 때에 힘쓰는 일이 많지만 우리는 하나님께서 원하시고 바라시는 뜻을 위해 힘써야 할 것입니다. 그렇다면 어떠한 일에 성도들이 힘을 써야할까요?

첫째, 좁은 문으로 들어가기를 힘써야 합니다(눅13:24). 세상의 길은 넓은 길이기 때문에 들어가기가 쉽고 다니기도 편합니다. 그 길은 멸망으로 인도하는 문입니다. 그러나 생명으로 인도하는 문은 좁고 길이 협착하여 찾는 이가 적다고 말씀하고 있습니다(마7:13-14). 모든 공적인 예배에 참석하고 봉사에 헌신하는 길 또한 좁은 길입니다. 그러므로 좁은 길, 생명으로 인도하는 문에 당도하기 위해서는 매사에 힘쓰지 않으면 안됩니다.

둘째, 영원한 안식에 들어가기를 힘써야 됩니다(히4:4-11). 여호수아를 통해 가나안 땅에 입성하고 사방에 안식을 주셨지만, 그 안식은 장차 구원얻는 성도들에게 주실 영원한 안식의 예표에 불과합니다. 그래서 히브리서 기자는 ‘남은 안식’이 있으며 그 남은 안식에 들어가기를 힘써야 할 것을 말씀해 주고 있습니다.

셋째, 영육간 흠이 없이 주 앞에 나타나기를 힘써야 합니다(벧후3:14). 사람이 삶을 살면서 아무런 흠이 없이 사는 것이 쉽지 않습니다. 그러나 우리의 신앙생활에 있어서 주님은 영육간에 흠이 없이 주 앞에 설 수 있도록 힘쓰라고 명령하고 있습니다. 엠마오로 가는 두 제자의 경우나, 모세의 경우를 볼 때 이들은 열심히 주를 위해 충성했지만 순간 믿지 못하고 의심했던 것이 커다란 흠이 되어 오점으로 남게 되었습니다. 모세는 한 번의 실수로 가나안 땅을 바라만 봐야하는 아픔을 겪었습니다. 이처럼 우리의 영육간에 순간이라도 잘못해서 흠이 생기게 되면 하나님의 심판을 받게됩니다. 그러므로 영육간 흠이 없어야 됩니다.

성도들의 삶은 ‘힘쓰는’ 삶입니다. 그러나 내 힘만으로는 아무리 힘쓴다 할지라도 하나님께서 원하시는 기준에 도달할 수 없습니다. 오직 하나님께 맡기고 의탁할 때 하나님께서는 우리를 악한 자가 만지지도 못하도록 지켜주십니다(요일5:18).

하나님의 은혜에 의지하여 주의 일에 힘쓰시되 좁은 문에 들어가기를, 남은 안식에 들어가기를, 영육간 흠 없이 주 앞에 나타나기를 힘쓰는 하루가 되기 위해서 기도하시기 바랍니다.

The Work That a Saint Must Strive at

The Word of Life

Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

While a saint lives upon this earth they must work hard in various things but we must work hard to understand what God wants from us and what His will is. Then what kind of work must a saint strive at?

First, we must strive to go through the narrow door (Luke 13:24). The paths of the world are wide and easy to go through and convenient to use. This road is the door that leads to destruction. However, the doors that lead to the path of life are narrow and constricted and there are few who seek it (Matt 7:13-14). Attending all official worship services and dedicating ourselves in volunteering at church is also a narrow path. Therefore, in order to go through the narrow path and reach the door that leads to life we must always make an effort.

Second, we must strive to enter the eternal rest (Heb 4:4-11). Through Joshua the Israelites entered the land of Canaan, and were given rest, but that rest was only a prelude to the eternal rest that God was going to give to His saints who receive salvation. Therefore, the author of Hebrews is telling us that if there is a “remaining rest” we must strive to enter that remaining rest.

Third, we need to strive to go forth to the Lord without any flaws in our flesh or soul (2 Pet 3:14). It is difficult for a person to live a life without being flawed in any way. However, the Lord is telling us that when leading our spiritual lives we must strive to stand before Him without being flawed. In the case of the two apostles who were headed toward Emmaus and Moses, they fully dedicated themselves to the Lord but their sudden unbelief and doubt became a huge flaw that remained as a fault. Likewise, we will be subject to God’s judgment if we make a sudden mistake and become flawed thus we mustn’t have any flaws in the spirit or the flesh.

The life of a saint is a life that “strives” however we cannot reach the level that God wants no matter how hard we try. Only when we believe in God and leave all things in His hands can He keep us safe from all evil (1 John 5:18)

Prayer Title

Pray that you will be able rely on the grace of God and strive to enter the narrow door, the remaining eternal rest and stand before the Lord without fault.
