만나의 오묘한 법칙
출 16:4-5

생명의 말씀

”그 때에 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 보라 내가 너희를 위하여 하늘에서 양식을 비 같이 내리리니 백성이 나가서 일용할 것을 날마다 거둘 것이라 이같이 하여 그들이 내 율법을 준행하나 아니하나 내가 시험하리라 여섯째 날에는 그들이 그 거둔 것을 준비할지니 날마다 거두던 것의 갑절이 되리라”

이스라엘 백성들이 광야생활 가운데 하나님께 받은 가장 큰 은총은 만나를 공급받은 것입니다. 처음 애굽을 나와 광야로 접어들었을 때는 “하나님이 광야에서 능히 식탁을 준비하시랴”(시78:18-19)라고 생각했던 이스라엘입니다. 그러나 하나님은 하늘에서 내리는 양식으로서(시78:23, 105:40), ‘권세자의 떡’(시78:25)인 만나를 광야에서 그들에게 공급해 주셨습니다. 온 우주를 창조하고 다스리시는 권세자, 하나님께서 주시는 양식이기에 이를 먹는 자는 그 권세와 능력으로 충만해 집니다. 나아가 ‘신령한 식물’(고전10:3)로서 이스라엘의 열조도 알지 못하였던 떡입니다(신8:3). 또한 그 맛은 민11:8에 의하면 ‘기름 섞인 과자 맛’ 같다고 하였으며 출애굽기에는 ‘꿀 섞인 과자 맛’(출16:31) 같다고도 하였습니다. 이슬이 마른 후에 광야 지면에 작고 둥글며 서리 같이 세미한 모양으로 내린 만나(민11:7-9)는 이스라엘이 잠든 밤에 내렸다가 해가 뜨면 이슬처럼 사라졌습니다.

광야에서 별도의 양식을 구할 수 없었던 이스라엘 백성들은 40년 여정 동안 하나님께서 주시는 이 하늘 양식에 절대적으로 의지할 수 밖에 없었습니다. 중요한 것은 하나님께서 만나를 주시되 7일 단위의 시간으로 내려 주셨다는 점입니다. 월요일부터 목요일까지는 한 사람 당 한 오멜씩 거두다가 금요일에는 다음날 분량까지 해서 두 오멜씩 거뒀습니다. 그리고 7일째인 안식일에는 만나가 그쳐서 모든 노동을 금하고 하나님의 안식에 동참할 수 있도록 실물교육을 시켰습니다. 따라서 광야 노정은 정확하게 7일의 반복이라 할 수 있습니다. 월요일부터 금요일은 만나를 거두고, 7일째 안식일은 쉼으로서 복주고 거룩하게 하신 안식의 축복을 받아 누렸습니다.

하나님은 이처럼 만나의 법칙을 통해서 단 한 가지, 안식일 준수 명령을 절대 복종하면 우리의 생명과 삶을 책임져 준다는 것을 일깨워 주셨습니다.

광야에서 하늘 양식 만나로서 이스라엘 백성들에게 식탁을 베풀어 주신 하나님께서 오늘날 광야와 같은 세상 속에서 역시 은총의 식탁을 베풀어주기를 위해 기도하십시오.

The Profound Law of Manna
Exodus 16:4-5

The Word of Life

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”

Throughout the Israelites life in the wilderness the greatest grace they received from God was the manna that God provided them with. At first when they made exodus from Egypt and reached the wilderness the Israelites spoke among themselves and questioned "could God spread a table in the wilderness?" (Psa 78:18-19). However, God provided them with the food from the heavens (Psa 78:23, 105:40), 'the bread of angels' (Psa 78:25). Because it is food that is provided by the almighty God who created and governs the entire universe, those who eat this food will be filled with His authority and power. Further, it is a 'spiritual food' (1 Cor 10:3) that even the ancestors of the Israelites did not even know about (Deut 8:3). Moreover, the taste according to Numbers 11:8 it 'tasted like wafers made with olive oil' and in Exodus 16:31 it was 'like wafers made with honey'. The manna that came down when the dew settled on the camp at night was like coriander seed and looked like resin (Num 11:7-9) and disappeared like the dew when the sum came up.

The Israelites had to completely rely on the food of the heavens that God provided them with throughout their forty year wilderness journey as they had no way of finding an alternative food source in the wilderness. The important factor is that God gave them manna but rained it down over a seven day a period. From Sunday to Thursday each person collected one omer, on Friday they collected two omers including the next days ration and on the sevent day the Israelites were given practical education when manna stopped raining down and all labor was prohibited so that everyone could take part in God's rest. As such the wilderness journey can be said as an exact repeat of the seven days. From Sunday to Friday they collected manna and on the seventh day they rested and received and enjoyed the blessings of the day of rest. Through the law of manna God has provided us with the enlightenment that when we strictly keep and obey the commandment of the day of rest He will take responsibility for our life and lives.

Prayer Title

Pray that the God who spread open a table for the Israelites through the food of the heavens-manna will too provide us with a table of grace today in this world that is like the wilderness.
